Tracking the Cases of Covid-19 in Dallas County

Updated as new information is released regarding the number of cases in Dallas County specifically.

Dallas County 4/8: 1,324 Total Cases, 163 New Cases

Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting 63 additional positive cases of COVID-19 today, bringing the total case count in Dallas County to 1,324. The 20th death was reported of a man in his 60’s who was a resident of the City of Rowlett. This individual had been critically ill in an area hospital and had underlying health conditions. Of cases requiring hospitalization, about three-quarters (70%) have been either over 60 years of age or have had at least one known high-risk chronic health condition. Diabetes has been an underlying high-risk health condition reported in over a quarter (29%) of all hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

The numbers of intensive care unit hospitalizations from COVID-19 from this past week have exceeded the peak week of ICU hospitalizations from influenza this past 2019-2020 season in Dallas County.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 have been increasing in Dallas County, with about two-thirds (67%) have been either over 60 years of age or have had at least one known high-risk chronic health condition. Of cases requiring hospitalization to date, 36% of all hospitalized patients required admission to intensive care units.  

Before we can start returning to a sense of “Normal” this orange line will need to be descending, rather than increasing or staying flat.The orange line is important to track in order to determine how quickly the virus is spreading. The flatter the orange line, the slower the rate of transmission. This is what people are referring to when they say “Flatten the Curve.” The above table and chart track the spread of the Covid-19 Coronavirus. The Blue line represents the total number of positive Covid-19 cases in Dallas County, while the Orange line represents the number of new positive cases on that given day.
